Somerset based artist, printmaker Maxine Foster’s pieces draw inspiration from the urban and natural environments such as graffiti, decay, and day-to-day marks found in cities, often making connections with their water sources - erosion and decay within their beaches and harbours. Having one foot in the city and one foot in the coast has had a profound effect on her and her practice, emulating the ebb and flow of the tide. Seeking an anchor when facing some difficult decisions, she takes inspiration from the beaches of memories past. She focuses on the arch of the Thurlestone Rock. It stands strong and imposing like a beacon, offering courage and strength during tumultuous and turbulent times. Foster takes a painterly approach combining drawing, painting and hand-printed collage, building multiple layers on paper using a palimpsest like technique.
