Haunted by the vanishing of so many insect species here in England, I began creating collections of the ones that no longer hum in our hedgerows — or perhaps never did. These are imaginary, invented specimens. Here they are arranged in a faux Victorian display case — ordered, labelled, reverent — echoing the taxonomies and curiosities of 19th-century naturalists. Yet where they once sought to catalogue the living world, I assemble elegies. Each fragile body is a small act of remembrance, a cabinet of ghosts pinned in stillness, asking what it means to preserve what we have already allowed to slip away.
