Ink and monoprint collage
h: 100 w: 72 d: 1 (cms).
The Thirle and Stone series are distinctive artworks created during a ten-day artist residency in June 2025 at The Underground Stream Gallery near Kingsbridge, South Devon. This residency gave Foster the opportunity to closely explore Thurlestone Rock at low tide. The rock often appears in her coastal work, both abstractly and semi-realistically. It stands as a strong, imposing beacon, symbolising courage and strength amid turbulent times. During her stay, she studied the rock in detail, including making an eleven-meter frottage drawing of its surface. Throughout the residency, she produced two atmospheric series on paper, layering oil-based printmaking inks with monoprint collage. These works reflect the diverse geological features of the natural arch and surrounding rocks while also addressing concerns about erosion and climate change impacting this monumental formation.
